The Midlands Meander is a special place in my heart and for one of my graphic design projects during my last year of studying, I created a Midlands Meander rebrand.
The Midlands Meander is essentially a cumulation of various homestyle shops throughout the Natal Midlands. It comprises of five different routes that I have rebranded as the Yellow, Pink, Green, Purple and Orange routes respectively. Below are some examples of collateral items that can be used while travelling and navigating the Meander. These include coffee flasks, car fresheners, a bumper sticker and portable chargers.
In addition to the collateral items, I created wayfinding signage to help visitors navigate the meander easier and with more clarity. Below is a map of the five routes positioned at one of the destinations on the Midlands Meander.
Along with the above wayfinding signage, below is more signage that helps navigate the visitors to various stops on the different routes.
Below is the iconography I designed to help the visitors know the type of destination they would be visiting. From left to right the icons represent Accommodation, Conferences and Functions, Arts and crafts, Leisure and Activities, Learning and courses, Weddings, Selective shopping and lastly Food and Drink.
In order to build brand awareness, a campaign was setup which included #Wheretonext. It was a social media campaign launched on Instagram which included participants posting a photo of themselves or with friends and adding the hashtag to the post. The winner would win a weekend getaway at one venue on the Midlands Meander.
Below is the rebranded Midlands Meander website mockups that I created. It had a focus on UI and UX design to help navigate both on the website and through the various routes. Primarily it focused on visitors finding the right shop or destination that suited their needs.
Along with the previous deliverables, I was required to create an infomotion to promote the new brand identity for the Midlands Meander.
